Conclusion

Introduction

Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?

I believe as a professional in the health and wellness profession you need to first develop yourself.  Knowing and understanding yourself meaning mind and body it will allow you to understand and assist your patients. How can one assist the needs of his patients, and expect people to trust the advice they give if they have neither experience nor the knowledge?  Relating oneself spiritually allows a person to believe and open their mind to what is greater without existence. Understanding and developing the mind and body spiritually I believe help to understand people and build a more positive relationship. These characteristic will help a person professionally relate and assistant patients more effectively. All people who are professionals have lots of working knowledge and experiences. This is what people are looking for a person with experience and the knowledge that they trust to help with the issue or issues they have.

I really can improve in all areas. I don’t feel one person knows everything because they are constantly developing everyday and I feel there is always room for improvement not matter what. My physically wellness has really develop over these last six months and it because there are goals I have in place for myself. Learning as much as I can to later help assist my future patients has really inspired me as well. Developing my spiritual wellness more will always be a goal. There is so much to learn and understand that I feel it takes a lifetime. Spiritual wellness has always been a part of my life and I know at times I have slack on my growth but I will continue to again the knowledge in order to increase my wellness. Psychological I will always be challenge because controlling emotions and various thoughts running through my mind can be difficult at times. I have learned the power of meditation and will continue to find ways to develop psychologically.

Assessment

How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?

I really assess my overall at least every six month. As a Soldier and group with people of all ages I really compare myself to younger and older adults I’m in contact with to put my health in perspective. I know physically I would say I’m 7.5 on a scale 1 to 10 because physical exercise has been a part of my daily routine for the last 13 years. I have increased my physical fitness by incorporating lots of weight training. I still need to work on diet a bit more but I now understanding and have put in place a diet and fitness plan. I would put my spiritual fitness at a 7 because I understand and believe in the power of prayer. I do practice faith on a regular I am aware there is more I need and can learn to enhance my spiritual wellness. My psychological wellbeing is at a 5.5. I really have improved but have a habit of letting emotion takes the best of me at time. Especially at work the day are very stressful at times. I have use meditation practice to get me through the work day but this is an area I can really improve on. I have put goals in place and love the person I am just trying to improve on a better me.

Goal Development

List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.

My physical goal is to lose 10 pound and develop lean muscles. I have started an eight week program that allows one day off during the week. I wake up early for the gyms at 5 a.m daily because I found waiting until the work day is over I have many excuses why I can’t go. I do have to take a nap at times during lunch but I find going early in the morning has help with attaining my goal. My diet consists of lots of protein, fruits and vegetables. I do a body cleanse every six months to maintain a good health.

Spiritually I will continue to meditate especially after lunch and before I take a nap most days. This allows me to return to the office with a clearer mind. I also attend church and events to connect with people spiritually to enhance my development. I will continue to pray because I feel it has helped me get through trouble times. I have reach studies and know firsthand the effect from the power of prayer.

Psychological goal is to remain soundly focus of what at hand. I will always believe in myself and trust my instinct. There are many obstacles I face on a daily being deployed to Afghanistan but I remain positive and focus on controlling my thoughts. I always look for the positive in everything and with the power of prayer I know remaining focus won’t be an issue.

Practices for personal health

What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.

My physical strategies will keep goals in place to achieve because this will keep me motivated. I am working out six days a week doing weight training and cardio to achieve my goals. I really want to have a child so maintain a healthy body mass index is keeping me focus. I don’t need a gym membership because the military provides the necessity. I really just focus on a family and lowering my blood pressure by daily exercise and taken medicines.

For my mental state I continue to meditate and focus on controlling the thoughts running through my mind. I know I can get emotionally being away from home but I always have someone to talk to if there’s a need.  I really try to think before I speak because I usually speak what comes to mind first instead of thinking. This I will practice daily and continue to master the skill to improve my attitude and self.

Spiritually I will dedicate more devotional reading on weekly bases. I know with more devotional reading and meditation I will develop more spiritually. I will continue to join spiritual well being group and volunteer more at church.  I know surrounding myself with people with the same goals will help me to develop more.

Commitment

How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?

I plan to track my goal by an online tracker for my physical wellbeing because this is helping me to achieve my goals. I also have a partner that pushes and motivate me achieve my goals. I will focus on my spiritually goals by talking with my minister at church in search of better ideal and tactics. Psychologically I will read more on studies and continue to meditate to achieve my goals in the next six months.

My long term goal is to learn and put into practice as much as I am learning to be successful in the future. I will take notes and read on new studies and stay current with my field of study. I will pick the brains of teachers, advisors and mentor in related practices to gain knowledge and apply to my success.

Meditation and Visualization

Hello

During this course there were several practices I have learn from but the ones I feel benefits me the most is Meditation and Visualization. As a deployed Soldier you face many emotions and situations throughout the deployment. No matter how much training you go through it still isn't enough or at least you feel it isn't enough until you are face with situations. I chose this course along with other course during my deployment to find other ways to cope being in a stressful environment away from my love ones. I have really find meditation and visualization to be the best solution for my situation and environment. Some days is so overwhelming its have my mind wondering? Soldier are always been  diagnose with PTSD but I feel if the military will encourage such practices or have classes weekly it will cut down on the many cases. I'm not saying it will solve many issues because something’s Soldiers encounter is so hard to overcome.

I know these practice are beneficial and will be beneficial to foster mental fitness because I am testing in a very stressful environment. I know what work for me might not work for other as well but I am sure it will help. I will continue to take time out of my day preferable during my lunch time where I can be alone in my room. I do at time just take time out while sitting at my desk during the day because some day are overwhelming than others. I will sure continue this practice throughout my life.

Successful

Being successful is a goal in everyone life. It doesn't mean you have to have all this money  to full successful. Accomplishing a goal  as being the better parent or winner of the largest pumpkin in your state is being successful to some people. Allowing myself spiritual growth and to be successful because I have few obstacle I have my sister at church send me devotional reading to my email. This allow me to receive spiritual development no matter where I am. If for a reason I start my day without before it ends I will take time to enhance my spiritual growth.

I do believe in order to lead or give advice for growth you have to been of experience. When I'm apart of a group, attend some doctor, or receive advice. I look for the experience ones to lead, to diagnose, and to teach me from the knowledge they have receive, train, and learn from. How can I go into practice teaching others if I don't know myself. How can you lead if you have never followed? We want people to trust us but trust has to be earn by being honest in your practice. I'm a firm believer practice what you preach.

Prayer and Meditation

The assesment process where very interesting. I believe just by being human we think about self first then others. I feel everyone is always in some kind of protection or defense mode with out even realizing it. I realize I do worry more about others especially family more than myself. Things like are they ok financially and physically.  In my family we are believers and have faith so the spirtually aspect Im not concern about. I think not living so close and not seeing family as often as I would like allow me to wonder about these things. I will concentrate on self, physical, and spirtual growth. I believe there is always room for improvementin all area. I'm constantly learning things about myself daily because I feel what makes us who we are come through experiences. Physically there are things I'm not satisfied with so I continue to work on them areas. Spirtually I can dedicate more time for my spiritual wellbeing. Meditation is working well for me because it not only helps me focus on particular things its also make me feel great both inside and out. I have introduce meditation to others and they are really enjoying how it makes them feel.

Subtle Mind

1. Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the benefits, frustrations etc.
2. Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness.
Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.

When comparing the two exercises the love and kindness was more of allow suffering to come into our body and know how to accept kindness and love in our hearts but the subtle mind had me really focus. It took me to a place of happiness. I was able to think clearly and focus on at that point and time on myself. This method when dealing with frustrate is a 100 percent success. Before completing this exercise I was having a disagreement with my boyfriend about some things. Not being in the same place is already frustrating enough. After completing this exercise it has made me more relax and calm.
I feel the spiritual wellness allows you to be focus more mentally. As you are focus more mentally it contributes with how well you are physical. For example when a person is conducting yoga they are mentally focus and it help with the physical aspect of holding certain position. In my personal life I always incorporate my spiritual need throughout the day. When I am mentally focus when lifting weights I always see improvement in my physical wellness. Exercising help me feel great overall.
